Summary: | In a complex turbulent environment peer coaching (PC) provides a low cost, practical resource for learning professional development. Effective peer coaching, grounded in relational skills and a positive mindset, supports people to address current challenges and build self-awareness and motivation. This article highlights the purpose, necessary conditions and applications of PC to ensure successful outcomes using a three-step model. The fi rst step includes prerequisites such as a supportive context for growth-enhancing development. We describe structural and process features that build the relationship. The second step includes building awareness, developing social skills and relational competence that purposefully create the conditions for successful personal and professional growth. In the third step, skills are internalized to become part of the practitioner's repertoire for independent development work in organizations. Subsequently these skills can then be applied in other settings while the capabilities themselves are reinforced and further developed.
