| Summary: | The District of Sindhudurga is notified as the region having potential for tourism industry by the State government. Accordingly schemes like Bed and Breakfast Schemes are made operational. Under the scheme home stay units for tourists involving investments up to Rs 10 lakhs in micro and small scale sector have been set up by the local entrepreneurs. These units face difficulties on number of fronts. Few of these problems which are of very prime and basic importance have been identified in the present study to determine the gravity of problems suffered by the units. Although the geographical area and sector have rich potentials of generating self employment opportunities through these small scale tourism units, very little has been done for the development of the industry as a whole. Unfortunately, the government policies though look attractive are vague and exists only on paper. In actual practice; they are helpful to big corporate who acquire sizable land and other resources with some hidden intentions of partnerships with persons in power.
